about Family Mediation

Why choose the Family Mediation Hub?

Pam and Katy are qualified family mediators who share a genuine passion for supporting families through separation, as well as families who have already separated. Katy brings a wealth of professional experience working closely with families, while Pam offers valuable personal insight drawn from her own separation journey. Together, they create a respectful, understanding space where families feel heard, supported and empowered to build a positive future.

What is family mediation?

If you have decided to divorce or separate, mediation provides a practical way to move forward. It helps families reach agreements related to children, property and finances in a safe, structured environment.

Family mediation is an alternative to the courts (non-court dispute resolution) and can resolve family issues quickly.

The Family Mediation Hub also provides support for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who may be struggling to negotiate complex issues within their family.

How long does mediation take?

Our mediation sessions last 60 - 90 minutes and each session is normally co-mediated by Katy and Pam. On average, we hope to help you reach an agreement in three to five sessions, although this varies slightly, depending on the complexity of your situation.

What types of mediation are there?

We know everyone’s circumstances are different, so we offer a range of mediation types.

  • In person mediation – this is where we meet in person and mediate around a table or between different rooms
  • Online – we use Zoom for our online clients
  • Shuttle mediation – this is an alternative option for those who don’t want to be in the same room or on the same screen
  • We believe in co-mediation, so Katy and Pam will nearly always run your sessions together

The four principles of mediation

  • Mediation is voluntary - because of this, most clients attend mediation with a mindset that’s open to reaching a resolution
  • Mediation is confidential - agreements reached in mediation can’t be used by clients or solicitors in legal proceedings
  • Mediators are impartial and don’t take sides
  • The outcome is yours to decide – a mediator’s role is to support you to reach an agreement. We’ll facilitate and support, but we won’t make decisions for you
